Sergey Bortnik arrives in the large provincial city under the guise of a new state fisheries inspector. In fact, he is an investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee. Here Bortnik meets his old love Liza, now the wife of the local oligarch Zbruev, a friend of his youth. But Bortnik did not come here to arrange his personal life. The Caviar Baron appeared in the city - powerful and elusive, cruel and resourceful. Together with district police officer Ivan Kashin, Bortnik is looking for the Baron - but he turns out to be too cunning.
